How does it work?
-First have a good look through the site to get an idea of what you would like and find/take a good picture for me to work from.
-Then get in touch via the contact form and I will respond promptly to discuss.
-Let me know any requirements, e.g. timescale, you have. When we are are both happy to proceed I will ask for a 50% deposit.
-Once the painting is completed I will send you a photo and then, if you are happy, it will be varnished it and you will be advised when it will be fully dry and packaged all ready.
-You will need to make the remaining payment (and to cover postage if necessary).
-Then we can arrange posting or collection.
Hopefully this will answer some common queries you may have but please don’t hesitate to get in touch if it hasn’t answered a question!
What do you mean by a good quality picture?
-One of the most important things is that it has to represent your pet. I want to be sure their personality and character shine through the portrait.
-Good natural lighting is ideal with a good resolution - the more detail there is in the photo; the more detail can be added to the painting to help make it realistic.
-Lighting coming from one side and some shadows add depth, and therefore realism, to the portrait.
-Not too close up as this can distort features (although sometime this can be cute!)
-Photos taken at the same level as your pet. Taking the photo from above/looking down at them won’t capture them as well.
-Looking at the camera will enable me to create a painting with eyes that follow you around the room! Although a lovely side portrait can also make a great painting.
Here are some examples…
This image is to dark.
This image is overexposed and too close up.
The angle this has been taken from doesn’t work very well for a portrait and it is not in focus.
This is a good image to work from with good natural lighting, the cat is looking at the camera and the detail in the fur is clear.
How long will it take?
There is no set answer to this question, unfortunately, as it depends on the portrait size, my current workload and other commitments but I will endeavour to be open and honest. If you have a date you need to gift it for I will do my best, where reasonable, to complete it within your time frame. I usually need at least a months notice, longer for larger portraits. The time the portrait will take will depend on the size, but I will advise on this when you get in touch.
My pet has passed away and I don’t have many photos/good quality pictures, does that mean you can’t paint them?
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Whilst it is easier to work from a better quality picture I will be happy to discuss and have produced many pieces from suboptimal photos. I appreciate how important this piece may be for you and would love to work together to help create a special memento of your pet.
